At HCA Florida University Hospital, we offer private postpartum rooms for mothers and babies to recover and adapt following delivery. We know how special those first few days with your newborn are, and we strive to provide the privacy and comfort you need to begin bonding.

What to expect during your postpartum stay
After your labor and delivery, we will move you to one of our spacious, private postpartum suites. There, we'll provide you with compassionate, expert care throughout your stay.
Mother-baby care
Our goal is to provide family-centered maternity care, which includes fostering the new bond and relationship between newborns and parents after labor and delivery. To do this, we practice rooming-in, which means newborns will stay in the same room as their mother during the hospital stay. However, our skilled maternity staff is always available to monitor and care for your newborn during a time when mom needs rest.
Additionally, we practice skin-to-skin contact to help you and baby form healthy relationships and bonds.
Breastfeeding support
Breastfeeding is learned by practicing for both mother and baby. We have on-site certified lactation consultants and lactation counselors to support you during your hospital stay. Our specialists provide personalized support, including proper latch-on and positioning techniques, so you can leave the hospital feeling confident about your breastfeeding journey.
Breastfeeding is a natural process that offers many benefits for babies as well as moms, including:
- Providing baby with antibodies to help protect against a number of viruses and bacteria
- Reducing baby's risk of developing certain diseases and conditions
- Helping mom lose weight faster following delivery
- Expediting the postpartum uterus contraction process for mom
- Decreasing mom's risk of developing postpartum depression
Food and nutrition support
We offer dedicated maternity meals for new mothers throughout their hospital stay. These specialized meals help new mothers' bodies heal and adjust to postpartum life. We have in-house food and nutrition specialists who will visit patients daily to take menu and food orders that will be delivered to patient rooms. Special dinners are also offered.
Family members and other visitors are offered food options throughout the day at our cafeteria and our gift shop. Family members are allowed to eat with patients, but it requires planning in advance and incurs an additional fee.
Hospital discharge and ongoing care
Your obstetrician and selected pediatrician will work together to determine when you and baby are able to go home. Once you have been discharged, a nurse will provide you with instructions and any further assistance you may need.
In the state of Florida, you are legally required to provide an approved infant car seat for your baby's ride home from the hospital and all subsequent car trips.
Pediatric care
Just because you are going home with your newborn does not mean your relationship with our specialists is ending. Our hospital offers a full range of pediatric services to care for your child from infancy through adolescence.
We have in-house pediatricians on staff 24/7 who are available, if needed, to see your child in our pediatric emergency room. They are also available to care for your child if hospitalization is required.

In addition to advanced care and compassionate support, we also provide photography services and visitor accommodations.
Visiting hours
We recognize the importance of bonding with your newborn, which is why we allow one support person of the mother's choice to remain in the hospital room overnight after baby is born. Additionally, we encourage family and close friends to visit during your hospital stay.
Visitors are allowed between 9:00am and 8:00pm. We ask that healthy siblings be the only children visiting in the hospital. Adults with colds or other illnesses are strongly discouraged from visiting.
